How We Work

We are a very active, working all-volunteer board at Crystal Creek Rescue. We are in all-day contact regarding operations in order to support each other and complete tasks in the field.

We believe an organization is as strong as its people. That’s why we are currently expanding our board to strengthen our network of funders/donors, volunteers, fosters, and create a robust grant-writing sector. Building our financial position builds our capacity to save more cats and deliver more spaying projects across NWA.

Our board meets monthly where we review our balance sheet, our cat inventory, capacity, policies and procedures, funding, and updates on projects. Our board’s main focus is to place our cats in good adoptive homes as soon as possible, which is why we are working to expand our board to better manage each part of that process.

Meet Our Board

<strong>President</strong> | <em>Patricia Moreira</em>
President | Patricia Moreira

A life-long rescuer of dogs, she and her husband fed and spayed several neighborhood cats, one that was badly injured that they paid a vet to heal. They came to CCR for guidance and the next thing you know, Patricia is now an expert cat foster – from bottle feeding to FeLV cats and turning feral cats into loving house cats.

<strong>Secretary</strong> | <em>Verla Shafman</em>
Secretary | Verla Shafman

A life-long dog rescuer, Verla has been rescuing cats for 7 years. She reached out to CCR last year when neighbors abandoned their cats and she had some feral cats. She built shelters, vetted the cats, and got some adopted. Now she is a dedicated member focused on the care of every cat we receive. She recently cared for Mulan who had multiple wounds and rock-solid matted fur, and Verla cared for her expertly and compassionately around the clock.

<strong>Treasurer</strong> | <em>Heather Saathoff</em>
Treasurer | Heather Saathoff

A cat and dog rescuer since 2008, Heather has an animal whisper touch along with deep practical knowledge that makes her indispensable at CCR. Whatever the behavioral issue, she can solve it.
